Environmental Impact

The PA Department of Environmental Protection (PADEP) regulations do not permit uses

that could lead to impacts on wetlands or floodplains, without significant evidence the impact

would not generate degradation along the waterways.

Encroachment on Pocono Creek, Wetlands and Floodplains

I-8O lies within the Lehigh and Middle Delaware-Brodhead sub-watersheds which empty into the Delaware River. This supports 26 high quality cold water fisheries (HQCWF) streams and Exceptional Value watercourse (EV). These designated areas afford special protective consideration by regulatory agencies.

Encroachment on Woodland

15 plants, 2 reptiles, 1 bird, and a mammal are listed as threatened or endangered within the boundaries of the projected reconstruction corridor.

Requirements of earthmoving activities

Exit 303 - Exit 306 lies on the Marcellus Formation. Excavation below the water level in these areas could release acid rock drainage.

Hazardous and Residual Waste

76 potential waste sites have been identified within the projected reconstruction corridor.
